Regional Director of Diocesan Relations – Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern Regions

The Pontifical Mission Societies (TPMS) is a worldwide network at the service of the Pope that supports the missions and the Young Churches with prayer and charity. These include the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St Peter the Apostle, the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA), and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious.

We seek a Regional Director of Diocesan Relations who shares our vision

The RD for Diocesan Relations is an integral part of TMPS. In collaboration with other stakeholders, he/she will direct, manage, and coordinate the organization’s comprehensive outreach to (Arch)Dioceses within one of five regions. The RD will assist in the recruitment, development, mentorship, and leadership of Diocesan professionals focused on increasing outreach and support for the Pope’s missions and enhancing the organization’s reputation, resources, and relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Vice President for Regions, manage a growing, comprehensive outreach program at the diocesan level to raise awareness of the needs of mission territories, and, specifically, to support the Pontifical mandate to support the Mission Societies.
  • Provide leadership in creating structure and best practices in promoting the Pontifical Mission Societies within the diocesan structure.
  • Engage diocesan staff in methods of owning commitment to the missions.
  • To remain current with missiology and mission initiatives in order to instruct and support the faithful in developing practical spiritual and corporal works for promoting the 1,100 most under-resourced dioceses around the world.
  • To be a proficient resource in how to best animate the execution of the annual World Mission Sunday month, as well as to substantially increase the overall participation in contributing to this major second collection.
  • Oversee diocesan operations and assess performance of diocesan directors vis-à-vis protocols and guidelines from the National Office.
  • To create a trusting and collaborative relationship with diocesan directors that includes healthy and frequent communication, transparency, and a disposition of service and support for the sake of the missions.
  • To become efficient with documenting communication with and support provided to diocesan directors through the TPMS CRM system.
  • Communicate regularly with the VP of Regions to keep him/her abreast of ways to best support diocesan directors and to strategize in removing any logjams.
  • Provide leadership in building an institutional culture that represents a commitment to promoting the Pontifical Societies based on TPMS values.
  • Assess needs and opportunities within each (arch)diocese in the assigned region and provide training, guidance, and motivation to increase the effectiveness of diocesan directors as the primary promoters of the Pontifical Societies within their assigned (arch)diocese.
  • Partner in the creation of an overall plan for excellence in the development of mission outreach for the organization, ensuring implementation, monitoring, tracking, and evaluation of key performance indicators.
  • Assist in the creation and updating of processes and policies related to efficient and effective partnership with diocesan efforts within their assigned region on behalf of the missions.
  • Be proactive in creating a strong “Call to Action” in awareness and support of the missions.
  • Support events and other activities as directed by the Vice President of Regions.

Additional Job Functions:

Serve as a partner and resource to diocesan mission office directors and staff in support of their annual appeals, intra-relationships with the (arch)diocesan structure, visibility of the Pontifical Societies on the (arch)diocesan and parish level, and a catalyst who energizes a robust response in creating a missionary culture.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a mission-driven team player with the following qualifications:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing who embraces the mission, vision, and values of The Pontifical Mission Societies.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with a diocesan structure.
  • 5+ years of experience working within the Catholic Church, leading teams and demonstrating effective collaborative work relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated use of CRMs, internet-based research, Windows, Microsoft Applications, including MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated project management and decision-making ability with excellent time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable working with a team as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
  • Must have dependable, accessible transportation, as well as a valid driver’s license issued from the State of residence.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $55 – $65k annually. Commensurate with experience.

Administrative Assistant – Regional Diocesan Relations/Advancement & Development Depts


The Administrative Assistant is responsible for supporting administrative, operational, and clerical duties for the Regional Diocesan Relations and Advancement & Development Department of The Pontifical Mission Societies.

Advancement and Development Department
The Advancement and Development Department is responsible for inspiring great generosity among the many members of Christ’s faithful throughout the United States, to support the vital work of TPMS. The platforms for donations include Major Gifts, Direct Mail, Mission Magazine, Digital Appeals, Grants and Planned Giving. The staff consists of 5 team members.

The Diocesan Regional Relations Department
The Diocesan Relations Department provides direction and support, through 5 regional offices, for 180 United States Catholic Dioceses to promote enhanced capacity to support worldwide missions, greater awareness among the faithful of the mission reality, and increased support for mission dioceses around the world. The staff consists of 6 team members.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of special events, meetings, dinners, conferences, etc. This includes preparing agendas and meeting materials, sending invitations, tracking attendance, scheduling hotels, and conference space.
  • Prepare correspondence, briefings, agreements, and presentations.
  • Manage database of diocesan directors, donors, and other constituents.
  • Respond to routine questions from our constituents via phone, email, etc.
  • Perform data entry and updates in CRM (Virtuous), Asana, Hubspot
  • Arrange business travel (anticipating outsourcing travel in 2024)
  • Manage the Vice Presidents’ calendars.
  • Mail printed or digital materials as requested.
  • Provide backup telephone coverage for main telephone line
  • Occasional large mailings
  • Provide support for special requests and projects as required
  • Take minutes/notes of meetings, post and follow-up on actions identified
  • Support each department in achieving its strategic goals through productive interaction and collaboration with all departments staff and external constituents.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church preferred. Basic understanding of the Catholic faith required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, professional and polished.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office application, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Basic knowledge of database creation and management
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Requires a strong commitment to customer service, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The hourly rate is $20.00 – $27.00, based on a 35-hour work week. This is a non-exempt position and eligible for overtime. Compensation is based on qualifications and skill level

Major Gift Officer – East


How You Will Impact Our Mission:

The Pontifical Mission Societies (TPMS) are a worldwide network at the service of the Pope that supports the missions and the Young Churches with prayer and charity. Through four societies –the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious – and the World Mission Sunday National Collection, we inspire support for the Church in communities where Christianity is too new, young, or poor to be self-sufficient.

As an integral member of the advancement team, the Major Gift Officer (MGO) is responsible for raising funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support TPMS’ mission and operations.  The MGO will work primarily in the Northeastern and Eastern Region of the U.S. Successful candidates will have demonstrated success in prior professional fundraising or related roles (e.g., sale, marketing). This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience.

What You Will Do:

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit current and prospective donors for annual gifts, multi-year commitments and planned gifts to generate sustained financial support for the TPMS’ operations and programs.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of 125+ prospects to build and enhance donor relationships, educate and engage them in TPMS’ work, and solicit gifts to meet, and if possible, exceed fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with other colleagues to implement stewardship strategies for major donors. 
  • Seek opportunities to identify, cultivate and secure support from new demographic, regional and/or affinity groups to diversify and deepen TPMS’ base of support. 
  • Execute an ongoing, robust, and proactive donor discovery and qualification/disqualification program to assess the capacity and interest of existing and potential donors, engaging them to deepen their philanthropic support for TPMS. 
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Regions and Diocesan Mission Directors to identify prospects and leads.
  • Develop and implement fundraising events and activities, including but not limited to (a) personal solicitations (face-to-face meetings, phone calls, etc.); (b) arch/bishop-hosted meetings; (c) major events; and (d) initiatives targeted at specific dioceses. 
  • Arrange for donors and prospective supporters to meet with Ad Interim National Director, Rev. Anthony D. Andreassi and other key staff. 
  • Represent TPMS to the Catholic community, current contributors, and potential donors. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Experiences and Strengths:

  • Four-year college degree; advanced degree desirable. 
  • Proven success in front-line fundraising and/or client acquisition, repeatedly reaching ambitious goals and successful management and stewardship of a prospect portfolio. 
  • Experience managing special events and programs and corresponding follow-through. 
  • Leadership skills; success in partnering with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Comfort working in a creative, problem-solving, results- and team-oriented environment.
  • Prefer a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, knowledgeable and living in accord with the tenets of the Church.

Development and Stewardship Coordinator

The Development & Stewardship Coordinator provides proactive, effective, and measurable support to enhance The Pontifical Mission Societies’ fundraising activities, including the cultivation and stewardship of donors. This individual will work closely with the Vice President for Advancement, as well as the Advancement team and key fundraising committees, to execute an annual fundraising plan and donor communications strategy. This position requires the ability to work well within a fast-paced environment and under a collaborative team structure.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage database donor accounts, data entry, data clean-up, financial reports, and other system requirements. 
  • Provide donor acknowledgement in a timely manner (within 3 business days) and in accordance with the Advancement Department standards. 
  • Manage donor files and update filing procedures and practices. 
  • Provide weekly report of all donations/pledges received for Advancement team meetings. 
  • Provide administrative support for direct mail strategies, including mail merge functions, segmentation, and personalization of lists. 
  • Lead our donor recognition societies, including the Legacy Giving society.   
  • May support grant writing efforts, including prospect research, reporting and stewardship. 

Your Experiences and Strengths:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing and have a passion for The Pontifical Mission Societies’ mission and those we serve.   
  • BA/BS required. 
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience 
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks, set deadlines, and complete projects in a timely manner while maintaining high levels of performance. 
  • Database experience required.   
  • Professional phone and email etiquette. 
  • Excellent relationship management skills and high EQ. 
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite. 
  • Knowledge of website editing preferred or willingness to learn. 

Position Location: Hybrid remote work schedule to include ability to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. 

Compensation and Benefits 

  • Compensation – $24.00/hour – $28.00/hour for a 37.5-hour work week
  • This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.
